Marc de Bruin, Your Counsellor, Coach & Mentor

“KNOWING what to do won’t change you. DOING what you know will.”

Hi! I am Marc de Bruin and here’s MY story:

For the first part of my working life, I found myself entrenched in my intellectually stimulating and financially comfortable job as a Lawyer, specializing in Real Estate and Criminal Law, with a high profile, medium sized firm in the Netherlands.

I had a major problem: after 6 years, I realized I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing.

Even though I was great at my job, the money was good and the work was intellectually challenging, on Monday morning I looked forward to Friday evening and on Sunday evening I dreaded Monday morning. I thought I had got it ‘right’ – I was working hard, striving, achieving, sacrificing, over-committing, specializing, battling and surviving.

But it never felt right.

One day, after returning from holiday to 2 huge piles of files on my desk, I felt anxious and physically ill. I had the realisation – I had to change.

But I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have an alternative strategy; I’d never learned one. For the next 3 months I went into deep spiral that completely threw me. I knew I was going to quit but no clue what I was going to do. I couldn’t see any future. The only thing I felt: THIS isn’t it!

So I gave notice and resigned.

It felt good and I knew right away I had made the right choice, even though “what’s next” was totally out of my sight.

From there, a synchronistic series of events happened to put me on the path I’m on now. I worked out that I had these key values – travelling, preferably around the world, work that I can do anywhere, I like to help people and I like to have fun.

I was offered some part time work, I started studying Body Stress Release and steadily built my own practice. In 2001 my partner, our 1 year-old daughter and I came to Sunshine Coast for holiday to visit a friend and it immediately felt like home.

Within 18 months we moved to Australia. I set up my practice and saw an ad in the paper to study coaching. I met some amazing people such as Glenn Dietzel, for whose company Awakened LLC I became lead-coach for clients all around the world. I conducted workshops in Sweden, Holland and Australia. I then started working as a coach and facilitator doing employability skills training, qualified as a Counsellor and started working with Campbell Page Employment Services.

I’m now a Registered Counsellor, Certified Life/Business Coach, Master NLP Practitioner, AusIDentities Personalities Facilitator and Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Practitioner. I work as tutor for the Diploma of Counselling, conduct EAP Counselling for Converge International and work in my private practice. In 2017, I commenced my Master in Counselling to upgrade my knowledge and skills even further.

I’ve spent my professional time since 1999 finding out HOW to successfully make changes and now I work with clients all around the world, to help them dramatically transform their lives and businesses, in stunningly simple and highly effective ways. It’s all about simplifying life. My 3 Signature Programs will assist you all the way.

I can help YOU create a powerful state of presence I call “Knowareness” that allows you to make the right decision at the right time, all the time. Simple.

I know first hand how daunting taking that first step in a new direction can be. I also know how fulfilling and profitable taking that step can be!

General Comments

The tools and techniques used in Marc’s Four Corners, Personal & Professional Development and the Small Business Start Up Programs have a strong foundation in both Western neuro-science and Eastern philosophies. They are all about simplifying life. Modern research has found that “Mindfulness”, a state of awareness often promoted by Eastern philosophies, has measurable benefits on the size and structure of the executive functioning parts of our brain. Combined with powerful perception-change and cognitive restructuring strategies from more western, evidence based modalities, a powerful mix for lasting change in a person’s life is available. More specifically, The Programs use techniques from, and are heavily focused on:

  • Neuro Linguistic Programming and other (verbal and non-verbal) language tools
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Mindfulness integrated CBT (MiCBT)
  • Positive Psychology
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Keirsey Temperament Sorter

Marc de Bruin has received specialised training, and works primarily with the above modalities. He worked with Employment Service Provider Campbell Page from 2011-2015. Initially (2 years) delivering Employability Skills Training to groups of jobseekers across all Streams; from 2013 delivering counselling services to barrier affected jobseekers. He has been working in his private practice with clients from all over the globe since 2005, and is currently also employed as a tutor for the Diploma in Counselling (www.acte.com.au) as well as Senior Consultant People Assist Services with Converge International.

He holds the following certifications:

  • Currently studying Master of Counselling at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC)
  • Master NLP Practitioner
  • Life Coach
  • AusIDentities Personality Types Facilitator
  • Cert. IV in Small Business Management
  • Cert. IV in Training and Assessment
  • Diploma of Counselling
  • Graduate Diploma in Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (this is a level 8 training on the National Qualifications Framework; the same level as Bachelor Honours).
  • Bachelor of Law (the Netherlands)
